WEEKLY CURBSIDE TRASH COLLECTION
Regular curbside trash collection is on Monday, Thursday, and Friday of each week.

REQUIREMENTS:

Normal trash collection service will consist of one 96-gallon trash cart weekly and one 96-gallon recycle cart bi-weekly. Effective 07/01/18, the $10 monthly fee is charged on your utility bill.

A rollout cart shall be set out for collection only on the designated day for each premise. If you forget to set out for collection, it shall wait for the next week’s collection schedule.

The cart can be set out after 6:00 pm the evening prior to collection and shall be at the curb prior to 6:00 am. The day of collection, the rollout cart shall be removed from curb/alley by 7:00 pm the day of collection. Carts are NOT permitted to remain at the collection point continuously. No exceptions.

The rollout cart shall be placed by the street within line 10 feet from the curb or where the rollout cart was delivered to the customer. All carts shall be easily accessible without having to unlock or lock a door, gate or similar obstacle or encounter a vicious animal.

No rollout carts shall block or impede the traveled portion of a street.

Customer should use the trash rollout cart provided by the town for trash only. No yard waste, construction debris, hazardous or banned items. State banned landfill items or electronics shall not be placed in trash collection cart. If placed in the trash cart, trash will not be collected until unapproved items are removed and disposed of appropriately. Any non-town approved trash or recycle containers will be collected.

Any trash should not be brought into the Town of Wilkesboro from any point outside the town for the purpose of disposing of materials to become subject to pick up by the town.

All trash must be in the rollout cart provided. The customer may not fill rollout cart in a manner that the cart lid will not close tightly over the cart body or so full that the mechanical lifters on the trash truck or sanitation workers cannot lift the cart. No trash shall sit on top of the cart or on the ground beside the cart.

All trash shall be wrapped or bagged in plastic or paper bag inside the trash rollout cart and the cart kept clean and without spilled trash in the bottom or smells emitting from the cart.

Spilled, animal scavenged or windblown contents or overflow are the responsibility of the property owner or occupant and should be cleaned up immediately.

All potentially dangerous or sharp trash items will be securely wrapped to prevent injury to our employees.

No person may cause, suffer or permit trash to accumulate or remain on premises under their control.

It shall be unlawful for any unauthorized person to scavenge, sort, pick through or remove refuse, trash, yard waste or recyclables stored or set out for collection.

It shall be unlawful for any person to burn or set fire to trash or recycling for the purpose of disposal.

Customers who are physically disabled or have typographic site restrictions for collection may get an exemption. A physician’s note is required and may be re-verified any point during the agreement and all persons living in the home should be physically disabled. All exemptions are on a case-by-case basis and is at the discretion of the Public Works Director. The town reserves the right to continue or discontinue this service at any time. All exempt customers must comply with this agreement.

Failure to comply will result in penalties, fines, trash collection not be collected in a timely manner, and/or further actions being taken to resolve issues. All penalties, fines, and remedies are listed in the Solid Waste Policy and the schedule of fees.
