A Zoning Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial local government body that acts like a court to hear appeals, decide on property variances, and issue special or conditional use permits
Variances: grants official permission to use a property in a way that departs from strict local zoning rules (such as setback or height exceptions) when strict enforcement causes unnecessary hardship.
Handles Appeals: reviews complaints and hears appeals regarding decisions made by zoning administrators or planning staff.
Issues Permits: Approves special, conditional, or specific use permits where local ordinances require board evaluation.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment does not have a regular monthly meeting ~ only meet when business arises. Meetings are usually on the third Monday of each month at 5:15 pm in the Lobby at the Wilkesboro Town Hall.
