As part of the budget process that was effective 07/01/2026, the Wilkesboro Town Council increased the monthly garbage fee from $10.00 to $16.00 to cover the increased Landfill Fees and Recycling (picked up at curbside) fees charged by our vendors to the Town. The $16.00 fee covers a set of 1 trash bin and 1 recycle bin from the town. Each new set of bins is charged an additional $16.00 per month.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND INTENT TO APPROVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY
TAKE NOTICE that the Wilkesboro Town Council intends to consider and take action with respect to certain economic development activity which the Town of Wilkesboro (hereinafter the “Town”) proposes to undertake pursuant to G.S. §158-7.1(a). The nature of the activity to be considered consists of an economic development project with the name “Project Kingfisher,” which involves potential construction of facilities and operations by the applicant within the municipal limits of the Town of Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina (hereinafter referred to as “the Applicant”). As a result of Project Kingfisher, the Applicant plans to invest in new machinery and equipment and real property improvements in an estimated amount of up to $66,166,398 over the next seven (7) years and to duly list the same for taxation in the Town of Wilkesboro Tax Assessor’s Office. Further as a result of Project Kingfisher, the Applicant would propose to create and fill approximately one hundred sixty-seven (167) new full-time jobs over the next seven (7) years at wages which exceed the average annual wage in the Town of Wilkesboro.
