Wilkes Community College invites the community to explore a pivotal chapter in American history through a special lecture and traveling exhibit focused on the Battle of King's Mountain, a turning point in the American Revolution.


On Thursday, October 1, Dr. Rusty Roberson, Wilkes Community College History Instructor, will present "When the Mountains Rose: Exploring the Battle of King's Mountain" at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Mayes Pit Cohn Auditorium.


During the presentation, Roberson will examine the events leading to the Battle of King's Mountain, the role of the Overmountain Men, and the battle's lasting significance in the struggle for American independence.


Following each lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to tour March to King's Mountain, a traveling exhibit from the N.C. Department of Natural & Cultural Resources and the Bowman Rare Book Collection, on display in Pardue Library. The exhibit highlights the campaign that culminated in the landmark Revolutionary War battle and offers visitors a deeper understanding of the people and events that shaped the region's history.


The lecture and exhibit provide a unique opportunity for students, history enthusiasts, and community members to engage with an important story from both North Carolina and American history.


The event is free and open to the public.
