Town of Wilkesboro opened the Heritage Square Splash Pad that is sponsored by Carolina West Wireless and located on the Wilkes Heritage Museum front lawn, known as Heritage Square. It is located across North Bridge from the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons and Wilkes Communications Pavilion (stage).
Heritage Square was designed to evoke the stately lawn of the historic courthouse while also offering gathering spaces for all ages. The Veterans Monument and Bricks honoring military service are prominently placed along with a historic canon. The splash pad features 29 jets, colorful lighting, and has tile work arranged in an “Ohio Star” quilt pattern to reflect the region’s artisan heritage.
To activate the splash pad, users simply step on a circular pad near the benches. The 5-minute operation cycle features a variety of jet heights and shapes. Jets along the outer edges of the play area were designed at levels appropriate for young children.
Additional information about splash pad policies and rules can be found here and at the kiosk adjacent to the splash pad. PortaJons are available in the Community Commons for splash pad visitors.
We hope you and your family enjoy the Splash Pad!!

Our community garden is maintained through the active participation of the gardeners themselves. Fresh gardens allow our citizens to grow their own food which provides fresh produce and plants into their everyday lives for healthier living. Other benefits are satisfying labor, self-reliance, connection to the environment, the opportunity for multigeneration and cross-cultural connections, neighborhood improvement, and a sense of community.
The gardener leases a garden plot each season which may or may not be the same from year to year. Handicap raised beds have been added as well. Cub Creek Community Garden’s goal is to be a place that invites neighbors, friends, and families to communicate and relate through a shared experience.
Through the aid of the Master Gardeners, Cub Creek Community Garden offers tips and advice on how to make your own garden plot better, whether you are a beginner or expert. What is a Master Gardener and would you like to become a Master Gardener? To find out how click here.
Besides the gardening activities, other advantages include a series of special work days, email updates on garden conditions, and having Master Gardener’s to provide a helping hand. Where else could you get a deal like this!
If you would like to have an opportunity to participate in this experience, you will need to complete a garden application. Please click button or pick up the application and pay fees to the Wilkes County Extension before April 5th each year. We look forward to seeing you!
(R) The new raised beds were completed in Winter 2017.
(L) The Master Gardners post information at their kiosk near the garden. You may also find information at Cub Creek Community Garden Facebook.
